No More Room in Hell 2 Beginner Guide: Survive Your First Runs
No More Room in Hell 2 punishes the habits other shooters teach you. This is the short version of what actually keeps new players alive.
Updated against the 1.0 build · Aug 15, 2026
Default difficulty assumes permadeath: when a Responder dies, that character is gone. Run Solo Mode first if you want to learn maps without the stakes.
The survival loop in one paragraph
Each mission follows the same shape: spawn near your squad, follow the objective marker, loot buildings along the route, hold positions during objective phases, and extract when the squad is ready. Everything else — ammo, infection, permadeath — exists to make that loop tense.
Rules that keep new players alive
- Stay within shouting distance. This is an 8-player game where separation kills. Two players separated is a rescue mission; three is a wipe.
- Melee before you shoot. Gunfire pulls more zombies from the whole map. Melee is quiet, infinite and often the correct answer.
- Don't carry a gun you can't feed. If nobody in the squad has matching ammo for it, a rifle is a heavy club. Call out ammo types.
- Watch your infection meter. After any fight, check it. Onset means you're on a timer — find Phalanx Pills or Gene Therapy, and tell the squad.
- Never open the extraction door with an empty plan. The last phase is where runs die. Clear the approach, agree on who watches the rear, then move.
Your first session, step by step
- Run Solo Mode on Beginner once — learn the objective flow and map layout with no risk.
- Check your Responder's profession and read its starting skill. Swim Captain? You have extra health. Prepper? Pick up more ammo.
- Join a public lobby on Beginner. Say hello, confirm the mic situation, and stick with the most experienced player.
- Loot conservatively. Inventory is weight-limited; supplies (for Credits) and medical items outrank a second gun you'll never fire.
- Extract on the first safe call. Dying to greed is the most common new-player death.
Common first-run mistakes
- Treating it like Left 4 Dead: no respawn horde-rescue, no revives-after-death. A dead Responder is gone.
- Holding sprint constantly: stamina is a combat resource. Walk the quiet sections.
- Ignoring the noise meter: shots, shouts and melee all travel. Hordes are attracted, not scripted.
- Hoarding meds for "later": use them before you're on the floor, not after.
Extraction and progression: why the exit matters
Extraction isn't a bonus — it's the payout. Finish the map's main objectives and the helicopter LZ opens; boarding it banks your character XP. The more Suppliesthe squad carries out, the more progression you bank, and Credits mainly come from a final extraction. Early extraction pays less.
That changes the loot math: supplies are the mission's real currency. A pack full of Supplies beats a spare shotgun you'll never fire, and dying on the way out converts both into nothing.
First-run questions
What should I do on my first run?
Play Solo Mode or Beginner difficulty once to learn the loop: follow the objective marker, loot along the route, watch your infection status, and extract when the squad is ready.
Is No More Room in Hell 2 hard?
Yes, especially at Normal and above. Scarcity is the design: limited ammo, limited inventory, and one bad mistake can cost a leveled Responder.
Does dying really delete my character?
With permadeath on, yes. A dead Responder is gone with their levels and loadout. Solo Mode disables permadeath.
What is the best beginner difficulty?
Beginner. It has timed respawns and is explicitly tuned as the onboarding tier; Normal tightens things up with objective-based respawns.
How do I avoid getting infected?
Don't get grabbed, don't stand in toxic gas left by special zombies, and watch for the bite animation. Every zombie attack carries infection risk.
Why does my game stutter?
Common PC fixes: verify the current GPU driver, cap the frame rate, lower shadows and volumetric effects, and check for background overlays. Performance complaints are common, so this isn't you.
